A couple of friends of mine and myself got an idea... Buy an old car, older than 30 years.. and drive it on a two week trip in northern/eastern europe..

The idea is to get something like a 1980's Opel Rekord.

Kinja'd!!!

and drive from Hamar, Norway (our hometown) to Umeå, Sweden; Helsinki, Finland; Tallin, Estonia; Riga, Latvia; Vilnius, Lithuania; Warszawa, Poland; Prague,Czech Republic; Copenhagen, Denmark and back to Hamar, Norway..

Kinja'd!!!

If we do this, would you guys like to see a vlog/blog kinda thing about the trip?

A few friends of mine have done a similar loop, only starting in the Netherlands, and including Russia. They didn’t have such an interesting car though, they had a boring Passat.

I’d definitely be interested in seeing/reading your adventures.

We may end up doing the trip in my boring Kia Picanto or in a Saab 9-3. But if all stars align we’ll get an old car and do this trip just so we can tell our grandchildren we did it :) Norway to Croatia, Italy and back could be an alternative as well.

Really any long road trip is cool, especially in a cool old car. A dream of mine is to follow the entire coast of western part of Europe, all the way from the Netherlands (or maybe even Germany/Denmark) to Slovenia (or maybe continue down to Greece).

Do it! I would enjoy reading about it, but do it for you, not us—

It’s been done. It’s called Roadkill.

The Opel pictured looks like a very clean specimen.

I have a dream of driving the entire coast of europe in a tiny shitbox. But that’ll take me months.. just the entire coast of Norway would be a few weeks.

It would be for us, but the more views the more likely we’d be to get some sponsors.

We’ll see what we can do. Probably no live updates though.

I already have the tiny shitbox part fixed...

Realistically I would spread it out over a few trips, I guess.

Yes but you get extra points if (in the event of it being an Opel Rekord) you name the car, Dunny Door.

In memory of the Holden Commodore...

You might as well go through or even Belarus while you’re so close. Problem: it’s not an easy place to get into.

Great idea. I’d love to do that. Don’t really wanna put the kms on my car, but if you buy something cheap it won’t cost you too much.

I’d require a convertible or sunroof at least, and air con and/or heater depending on the season. No reason not to be comfortable :)

And rwd for shenanigans. Which leaves me more or less out of luck in Australia. No convertible mustangs, no easy replacement. I wouldn’t trust an E30. Maybe an old Supra targa. I may regret that if it breaks but otherwise things could be good.

Do it in the Rekord so I can live through you

If and when this trip happens it will only involve countries with easy access.
